STOP, BABE! I just realized the real meaning behind this Tokio Hotel song

My slow ass thought that this song was begging a former lover not to remove herself from Bill Kaulitz's life, but he croons a different tale that only a glance at the lyrics could've told me about, unfortunately.

Billy's 5-song I'M NOT OK EP talks about his heartbreak following a relationship, and a few of those feels leaked over to the DREAM MACHINE album put out by the band Bill is the lead singer of, TOKIO HOTEL. The album is a whole 80s vibe, including the song "Stop, Babe" (one of my favorites).

"Stop, Babe" isn't a tune about Bill trying to hinder a breakup. In fact, ironically, the song is about how a lack of love can lead you to not really want any love at all. You can hear the pain in his voice as he begs her to STOP! Followed by a slight "babe" as if he is afraid to call her that, not wanting to give her the wrong impression that he is ready for a new relationship. Billy isn't just not ok, the lyrics also speak about a situation where he isn't ready to move on to someone new. How is he going to express this to her when he does have some feelings for her, though? As expressed in the extended hook "But it's too good to be true, Yeah, I'm so into you. It's too good to be true, Nothing's better than you." He just attempts to push her away again, yelling STOP and threatens to move from Cali, but of course to protect her from his battered heart, as he does say "You know I like you a lot".

I am discovering the true meaning of this song after a year of listening to it, and it couldn't be more timely. Following a recent breakup, the last thing I want is someone new in my life. The fear of being heartbroken again before I am "fully healed" as Bill calls it, is one of the realest things that I have come into contact with.

TRENCH ALBUM REVIEW

Twenty One Pilots released their new album, TRENCH, on Oct. 5th. The new album in comparison to the last is a sentimentally soulful composition that combines dreamy sounds with their signature drum beats and funky bass lines.

I like BLURRYFACE, but I did notice a significant shift in the way this new album sounded. BLURRYFACE was nearly pop-rock all the way to the core, besides "Message Man" hinting at reggae influences. With this TRENCH piece, the duo seems to be introducing some old school soul sounds to their white millennial audience, if these kids weren't already introduced to it in the first place. As a black person who grew up on a bit of Motown, the elements in the songs were rather familiar, and exciting. Just Twenty One Pilots blending genres as they do best.

I want to put it out there that I just might like TRENCH  better. Is it just because it's new? Maybe... Or perhaps it's that electric guitar melody on "Jumpsuit" (hit you hard on that first song) that smoothly moves into the vintage-sounding hip hop beat of "Levitate" (which explains the album's title btw), proving Tyler's range from being a screamer to his ability to rap. The flow between the tracks on this album is un-fucking-believeable.
